Dunedin Airport’s head of safety and compliance Glenn Knipe has become the first airport safety professional in New Zealand to achieve the internationally recognised ACI-ICAO Airport Safety Professional designation.
The qualification, completed in two years, recognises expertise in airport operational safety and international aviation standards.
As a result, Glenn has also joined the ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East Regional Operational Safety Committee, becoming one of only two Australasian representatives on the committee.
The appointment also makes Dunedin Airport the first New Zealand airport to have a representative contributing to the development of international airport operational safety best practice.
ACI World director general Justin Erbacci says the achievement reflects Dunedin Airport’s commitment to aviation safety and operational excellence.
Dunedin Airport chief executive Daniel De Bono says Glenn’s achievement strengthens the airport’s safety capability while raising its international profile.
“The knowledge and international connections Glenn has gained are excellent resources for Dunedin Airport. From the little airport that could, we are proud to contribute and lead among the giants of the global airport sector.”
Glenn says the programme has strengthened the airport’s approach to risk management and helped integrate safety more closely into its wider business strategy.
