Council has agreed on the temporary closure of the Marina Carpark as a freedom camping area for the 2019/2020 summer season.
This follows complaints that freedom camping in the area is having an adverse impact on public access, amenity, user safety and the environment.
Two options were presented to Council, to increase monitoring and enforcement or the temporary closure using section 9 of the Freedom Camping Bylaw.
A comprehensive study of Council’s camping management approach is underway, with a full bylaw review planned for next year.
Implementation of the closure is underway and will likely come into effect in November.
Signage will be installed to notify the changes.
