Coronet Ridge Resort has been named Hotel of the Year – Refurbishment at the 2026 Australasia Pacific HM Hotel Design Awards.
The award was presented during the Design Inn Symposium at Adelaide Oval on May 5, recognising standout hotel interior design projects across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
Recognition for major transformation
The award acknowledges the redevelopment of the former Nugget Point Hotel into the five-star Coronet Ridge Resort in Arthur’s Point.
The refurbishment was led by architects Mitchell McKenzie of GCA Studio and Graham Crust of G2 Studio, with procurement and fit-out delivered by FURNZ Group.
The resort overlooks the Shotover River and was designed to reflect the surrounding alpine landscape.
Focus on luxury and sustainability
GCA Studio and G2 Studio director and registered architect Graham Crust says the project aimed to create a luxury alpine retreat with a strong connection to its environment.
“Our vision for Coronet Ridge Resort was to craft a refined sanctuary that blends contemporary luxury and sustainability, inviting guests to relax and reconnect with nature through all seasons.
“This project transformed an outdated hotel, repositioning it firmly within the luxury market.”
Queenstown tourism appeal
Capstone Hotel Management director Clare Davies says the recognition reflects the ambition behind the redevelopment.
“From the very beginning, the goal was to create something genuinely exceptional for Queenstown.”
Coronet Ridge Resort opened in December 2025 and features 41 redesigned rooms and suites, a Roman-style spa, restaurant and bar, conference facilities, fitness centre and squash courts.
The property is located near Coronet Peak Ski Area and less than 10 minutes from central Queenstown.
The resort is managed by Capstone Hotel Management.
