Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre is marking four years since opening, with the venue credited for helping lift Ōtautahi Christchurch’s profile as an international business events destination.
Since hosting its first conference, Te Pae Christchurch has delivered more than 865 conferences, exhibitions and cultural events, welcoming over 422,000 visitors.
Growing international reputation
The convention centre says it has built a strong reputation for delivering large-scale events, supported by a focus on service and hospitality.
Te Pae Christchurch general manager Ross Steele says the venue is now recognised globally.
“In just four years, Te Pae Christchurch has established itself among the world’s leading convention centres, delivering events that are operationally excellent and sustainably led.
“We’re proud of the role Te Pae Christchurch has played in showcasing our city as a confident, connected and welcoming destination on the international stage.”
Supporting Christchurch’s recovery
Te Pae Christchurch says its success reflects the wider transformation of Christchurch as a business events destination, with organisers attracted by the city’s compact layout, walkability and proximity to accommodation, dining and green spaces.
The venue has played a role in positioning Christchurch as a competitive option for international conferences, contributing to visitor flows and the local economy.

Sustainability has been a key focus, with Te Pae Christchurch embedding environmental and social considerations into its operations.
The venue holds certifications including Toitū Net Carbon Zero, EnviroMark Gold and Qualmark Gold, alongside international standards for quality and food safety.

Te Pae Christchurch says demand from international organisers continues to grow, with events increasingly designed to deliver broader cultural and environmental outcomes alongside economic benefits.
The centre says it is now focused on building on its first four years, as Christchurch continues to strengthen its position in the global business events market.
