The Hotel Britomart has been honoured with a Michelin Key, one of the world’s most esteemed distinctions for exceptional hospitality.
Announced overnight at a ceremony in Paris, the accolade places The Hotel Britomart among just three New Zealand hotels — and 19 properties nationwide — to receive the inaugural honour from the Michelin Guide.
The Michelin Key is the hotel equivalent of the Michelin Star, recognising properties that offer truly extraordinary stays. Each Key is awarded based on five essential criteria: excellence in architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, distinctive personality and character, value for money, and contribution to the local community.
What makes the recognition particularly meaningful is that it draws upon a 20-point scale derived from post-stay ratings by verified Michelin Guide guests — a true reflection of the experiences delivered by The Hotel Britomart team every day.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication, passion and creativity of our entire team,” says Clinton Farley, general manager of The Hotel Britomart. “To be recognised on the global stage alongside some of the world’s most iconic hotels and lodges is an incredible honour. We are proud that The Hotel Britomart and New Zealand are represented in this way, reflecting our commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences every day, rooted in thoughtful design, sustainability and genuine hospitality. We also congratulate the other New Zealand properties recognised with Michelin Keys for their outstanding contributions to hospitality.”
“While today is a moment to celebrate, it is also a springboard,” Farley says. “We remain committed to delighting and surprising our guests, continually evolving our offering. With this Michelin Key, we reaffirm our promise to exceed expectations and continue shaping world-class hospitality right here in Aotearoa New Zealand.”
Opened in 2020 as New Zealand’s first 5 Green Star hotel and celebrating its fifth birthday this month, The Hotel Britomart has become synonymous with curated experiences that celebrate Aotearoa, sustainable luxury, thoughtful design and exceptional hospitality. The hotel’s deep connection to the Britomart neighbourhood, local artisans and regenerative travel experiences continues to set it apart as a destination in its own right.
