Esther, QT Auckland’s signature restaurant, has been awarded Aotearoa Hotel Restaurant 2026 at the HM Awards Aotearoa-Pacific, held in Auckland on Friday 30th October.
Inspired by the flavours of the Mediterranean, Esther is led by creative director of Food and Beverage Sean Connolly, executive chef James Laird and Restaurant manager Nick Gallagher. The restaurant is renowned for its considered menu that blends Mediterranean influences with New Zealand produce, its sell-out special events such as the Crushed Grapes series, and weekly rituals like Bistecca Tuesdays and Snack Club.
QT Auckland general manager Michael Stamboulidis says it’s been a huge year for the Esther team and the award reflects the effort and dedication of both the back and front of house. “I’m incredibly proud of the team for taking home this honour. While it’s great to receive the recognition, it’s a reflection of what happens quietly on the daily – a team that is dedicated to putting on a great experience for every single diner. This is for everyone who has had a hand in making dining at Esther what it is, from the pass to the front door.”
The award comes on the back of Esther being named in the inaugural MICHELIN New Zealand guide earlier this year, and being awarded One Hat in the Cuisine Good Food Guide for 2026.
Alongside the win for Esther, QT Auckland was nominated for Aotearoa Boutique Hotel, Rooftop at QT for Aotearoa Hotel Bar and James Laird for Hotel chef.
QT Auckland has also been names a finalist for New Zealand’s Best Hotel which will be announced at the 2026 HM Awards Australasia, in Sydney in November.
