Cloudy Bay has opened its private luxury accommodation retreat, The Shack, for year-round guest bookings at its Marlborough vineyard.
Located on Cloudy Bay’s original vineyard site in Marlborough, the self-contained guest house accommodates up to eight guests across four ensuite bedrooms overlooking the Wairau Valley vineyards.
The property includes expansive living spaces, a gourmet kitchen and views across the surrounding vineyard landscape.
Alongside the accommodation offering, Cloudy Bay has also introduced a range of curated guest experiences designed to connect visitors with the region, its wines and local produce.
Experiences include guided tastings, bespoke lunches and dining at the winery’s Japanese restaurant, SAKU.
‘One of Cloudy Bay’s best kept secrets’
Cloudy Bay brand experience manager Stefan Wernli says The Shack has long been part of the winery’s story.
“The Shack has always been one of Cloudy Bay’s best kept secrets, and it perfectly captures the way we love to host our guests and share our region,” Stefan says.
“Now more people can wake up among the vines, hang out with locals and get a true feel for Marlborough. It’s a deeply personal way to connect with the landscape, the wines and the stories that make this place so special.”
Reimagined after 2012 fire
According to Cloudy Bay, the current building was developed following a fire in 2012 that destroyed the original cottage formerly owned by founder David Hohnen.
The retreat was designed by architects Tim Greer and Paul Rolfe, with interiors created by New Zealand designer Alice Lines.
Cloudy Bay says the design incorporates locally sourced materials and craftsmanship, including wool textiles, timber furniture and bespoke ceramics from New Zealand makers.
The four bedrooms are individually themed around Marlborough landscape elements including Cloud, Mountain, River and Pelorus.
Packages at The Shack start from $6800 for a minimum two-night stay, depending on season and guest preferences.
