TNZ’s domestic tourism focus supported by appointment of general manager

Bjoern Spreitzer has been appointed general manager of a newly established team at Tourism New Zealand to restart domestic tourism.

Bjoern has extensive knowledge of New Zealand’s tourism industry, having worked at Tourism New Zealand for the past 14 years, most recently as global manager planning and partnerships and general manager Americas and Western Europe.

“Over the past 14 years Bjoern has gained extensive experience and built strong connections with industry and our key stakeholders which have set him up well to succeed in this new role.

“By working closely with key stakeholders, the team will be well positioned to contribute to the restart of the industry,” says Tourism New Zealand chief executive Stephen England-Hall.

The new team has been established to ensure Tourism New Zealand is set up to work in the domestic space.

The team will be structured similar to Tourism New Zealand’s offshore markets with PR, marketing and trade resource reporting to the general manager.

“I’m excited to work alongside the industry and our partners to help shape the future of domestic tourism in New Zealand,” says Bjoern.

“This work will be so important in helping to restart the tourism sector by encouraging Kiwis to experience all that New Zealand has to offer. I’m confident that together we can create something that all Kiwis will be proud of.”

Tourism New Zealand’s work in the domestic space will focus on demand stimulation at a national level. Research is currently underway to gather consumer insights to help shape an audience and channels strategy.

Tourism New Zealand was given responsibility to undertake domestic activity by government last month. Recruitment for roles in the Domestic team began last week.
