Eleven new cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand

The Ministry of Health has announced 11 new cases this afternoon in a livestream.

The new cases take the total COVID-19 patients in New Zealand to 39.

Five new cases were in Auckland, two in Waikato, two in Wellington, one in Canterbury and one in Hawkes Bay. They cannot yet confirm how many cases have recovered.

Ministry of Health director-general of health Ashley Bloomfield says no community spread link has been established yet and there is no current shortage of test swabs.

He confirmed that tests were not being rationed and up to 1500 tests can be run each day.

"Laboratories can be doing more tests each day if necessary."

He confirmed that there were plenty of personal protection equipment available to those who needed them.

There is a factory in Whanganui who can produce 25,000 masks a day, plus 18 million in the pandemic store.

Ashley says they are looking at developing an app that can track cases and/or contacts.
