Aussie beginner skiers welcome on NZ slopes

Tourism New Zealand is offering to help Aussies learn to ski the Kiwi way in its latest campaign.

"Around 66 per cent of the growing Australian ski market are beginner skiers seeking an easy and accessible winter escape," say Tourism New Zealand chief executive Stephen England-Hall.

The campaigh supports New Zealand's four key ski regions – Ruapehu, Mt Hutt, Queenstown and Wanaka – and includes a series of videos using playful Kiwi humour to guide Aussies on 'how to winter in New Zealand'.

The campaign features other winter experiences such as dog sledding and apres ski options likely to appeal to beginner skiers.

Strengthening visitation from Australia is a key focus for Tourism New Zealand as it responds to the impacts of COVID-19. The Government has also recently announced a $10 million funding package for Tourism New Zealand to support this response.

"New Zealand is entering a period of slowed international visitor growth, with several markets in decline," says Stephen.

"Global events like COVID-19 has intensified this and we are taking action to alleviate the impacts on the economy."

The largely digital campaign runs until the end of March in collaboration with Flight Centre and Virgin Australia.
