Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) has appointed respected hospitality and industry leader Michael Shah as its new Partnerships & Exhibition Manager.
The newly expanded role combines leadership of the MEETINGS trade show with a stronger focus on commercial partnerships.
Michael will lead the continued development of the trade show component of MEETINGS, New Zealand’s largest business events exhibition, with responsibility for exhibitor recruitment, retention and the exhibitor experience.
He will also oversee strategic partnerships that support BEIA’s long-term sustainability for members.
Michael brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience across the hospitality and events sectors in New Zealand and Australia, most recently as Chief Executive of Auckland’s Northern Club.
Prior to that, Michael spent five years as Director of Sales and Marketing at Cordis Auckland, helping lead the hotel through a major refurbishment and rebrand.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Michael back to the business events industry and to the BEIA team,” says Lisa Hopkins, BEIA Chief Executive.
“Michael’s a highly regarded industry leader with a strong commercial background, extensive relationships and a clear understanding of what drives successful partnerships.”
“He also knows MEETINGS from both sides of the floor, having participated as an exhibitor and a buyer. That perspective will be invaluable as BEIA continues to evolve the event and increase the value it delivers for our members and the wider sector.”
Michael Shah says “I’ve spent my career building relationships across hospitality and events, and I’m excited to bring that experience to BEIA at such an important time in New Zealand’s business events evolution.”
“MEETINGS is our industry’s leading national platform, and I’m looking forward to working with exhibitors, partners and the BEIA team to build on its success.”
Michael will work alongside Chris Peak, BEIA Head of Events Delivery, to further strengthen MEETINGS, and with Nicky Tilsley, BEIA Head of Member Engagement, to identify new commercial opportunities for members and the sector.
Lisa Hopkins says “Michael’s appointment reflects BEIA’s commitment to supporting a growing and ambitious industry. His experience, standing and understanding of the sector make him an excellent addition to our team.”
