The New Zealand International Convention Centre has become the first business events venue in the country to make a significant commitment to Te Haeata, with 20 staff enrolling in the New Zealand Certificate in Business Events (Level 4).
Delivered by Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA), Te Haeata is designed to strengthen workforce capability and create clearer career pathways across the business events sector.
NZICC employees from event operations, sales and marketing, and event planning will undertake the qualification this year.
NZICC general manager Prue Daly says the investment is focused on developing skills and career opportunities within the organisation.
“For NZICC, this is about creating opportunities for our people to grow, progress, and build long-term careers in business events.”
The programme combines online learning with workplace-based assessment, allowing employees to gain a nationally recognised qualification while continuing in their roles.
BEIA chief executive Lisa Hopkins says NZICC’s participation sets a new benchmark for workforce development in the sector.
“This isn’t just about attracting talent into the industry: it’s about nurturing, developing and creating opportunities for the incredible people who are already part of it.”
Prue says involving staff across different areas of the organisation will help build capability throughout the event journey, from securing and planning business through to delivering events.
