Air New Zealand and Air Chathams are expanding their partnership, enabling passengers travelling to and from the Chatham Islands to connect with Air New Zealand’s domestic network on a single booking for the first time.
The expanded interline partnership will also bring Whanganui into the network, following the introduction of interline services to Whakatāne earlier this year.
Air New Zealand chief executive Nikhil Ravishankar says collaboration between airlines is increasingly important as the regional aviation sector faces growing economic and operational challenges.
“Seamless connections into our network make a real difference. By working together, we’re making it easier for customers to travel, supporting regional economies, and demonstrating what’s possible when Kiwi airlines collaborate.”
Air Chathams chief executive Duane Emeny says the addition of the Chatham Islands is a significant milestone for residents, businesses and visitors.
“For the first time, customers will be able to book a single ticket connecting them with destinations across New Zealand. It simplifies travel for residents, opens up new opportunities for local businesses and tourism, and makes it much easier for more people to experience one of New Zealand’s most unique destinations.”
Associate Transport Minister James Meager says stronger regional air links support communities while improving access to jobs, education, healthcare and tourism opportunities.
The expanded connectivity begins on August 13 and coincides with the completion of the new terminal at Inia William Tuuta Memorial Airport, which is expected to support future tourism, business and regional connectivity growth.
