Tourism New Zealand has completed a nationwide series of workshops to help tourism operators adapt to the growing use of artificial intelligence in travel planning.
The sessions, held in Auckland, Rotorua, Christchurch and Queenstown as well as online, explored how AI-assisted search is changing the way international visitors discover destinations, plan holidays and make bookings.
Research by Tourism New Zealand found 62 per cent of travellers in key markets are likely to use AI tools to plan their next holiday, while 53 per cent expect to increase their use of AI for future trips.
General manager New Zealand and business events Bjoern Spreitzer says the workshops focused on practical steps operators can take to improve their online visibility.
“AI is already influencing how people discover and choose where to travel, so it is important that New Zealand tourism businesses are visible in the places visitors are searching and planning.”
Tourism New Zealand has also released a practical guide for operators covering website content, online listings, FAQs and other measures designed to improve discoverability through AI-assisted search. A follow-up online industry forum is planned for September.
