The Government is investing $800,000 to help ensure New Zealand tourism businesses are more visible through artificial intelligence-powered travel searches.
Funded through the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy, the investment will upgrade Tourism New Zealand’s digital systems to make information about tourism products and services easier for AI search tools to access and present to prospective international visitors.
Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston says more travellers are using AI to research and plan holidays.
“A growing number of people are using AI search to explore destination options and plan their holidays. We want to make sure New Zealand shows up strongly when they do.”
The funding will make Tourism New Zealand’s tourism database “AI-ready”, improving how information about thousands of operators is structured, while also expanding the organisation’s AI travel assistant with more content from regional tourism organisations.
Upston says the investment is intended to help visitors discover more destinations and experiences across New Zealand while supporting the Government’s goal of doubling the value of tourism exports by 2034.
