Radisson RED Auckland is set to open a new rooftop dining venue next month, with Aka launching on May 1 as part of the hotel’s Midtown offering.
Located on level 15 of the Lorne Street property, Aka is being billed by the hotel as Australasia’s largest outdoor rooftop dining space, combining skyline and harbour views with an Asian-inspired food and beverage concept.
The 800-square-metre venue has capacity for 300 people and includes a restaurant, outdoor bar and private spaces under a retractable roof for year-round use.
Hospitality and visitor appeal
The launch adds to Auckland’s premium dining and nightlife offering, with rooftop venues increasingly seen as a drawcard for both domestic visitors and international travellers.
Radisson RED Auckland says the opening marks the next stage of the hotel’s rollout following its February debut.
Radisson RED Auckland general manager Reinout Engel says the venue is designed for locals and visitors alike.
“Aka is an entirely new proposition for Auckland, bringing a bold, international energy to the city’s dining scene.
“Designed as a go-to destination for both locals and visitors, it embodies the social, playful spirit that defines Radisson RED.”
Asian-inspired menu
The kitchen will be led by Aka head chef Edberg Loh, whose background includes roles in Singapore and Auckland.
Edberg says the menu draws on East and Southeast Asian influences and is designed for sharing.
“I’ve always believed in respecting traditional recipes while elevating them with modern techniques I’ve learned throughout my career.”
Signature dishes include dumplings, wagyu beef, karaage chicken and premium seafood.
Rooftop trend continues
The beverage programme has been developed by bar specialist Nick Bevin, with cocktails inspired by Asian flavours alongside a wine list focused on New Zealand and international labels.
Aka will open daily for lunch and dinner from 11am until late.
