New Zealand showcased to 200 travel sellers in India

Frontline training workshops in India have seen Aotearoa New Zealand showcased to over 200 travel sellers in India.

“India is an important market for us and one that has huge potential, with more than 10 million people actively considering visiting,” says Tourism New Zealand’s GM international Angela Blair.

“Indian travellers often visit New Zealand in our shoulder seasons; Autumn and Spring providing a welcome boost during our quieter months. Our consumer research shows Indian visitors are looking for destinations that are family friendly, have unique experiences and beautiful landscapes and scenery. New Zealand can deliver on all those things.”

Tourism will be an important contributor to New Zealand’s recovery and Tourism New Zealand is working hard in key markets like India to encourage high- quality visitation.

A 20-member delegation of New Zealand operators participated in the frontline training with 200 travel sellers across Mumbai and Delhi. The delegation included a mix of Regional Tourism Organisations, hotels, attractions, airports and airlines from New Zealand.

They shared the latest destination information and experiences in New Zealand as India approaches its peak travel season which coincides with New Zealand’s autumn and winter.

The first Tourism New Zealand office in India was set up in 2003 and over the years have rolled out several campaigns and partnerships with advocates, airlines and trade partners to build preference for destination New Zealand.

India is an important market for Tourism New Zealand and had demonstrated strong growth pre-COVID with holiday arrivals doubling between 2015-2019 to reach 66,775 visitors in 2019.

Tourism New Zealand’s research shows there is a strong desire to travel to New Zealand among Indian consumers, with 64 per cent of those actively considering visiting (6.8 million people) claiming that they have done enough research and are ready to book their trip to New Zealand.
