An internationally acclaimed exhibition exploring the human stories behind the Titanic will make its New Zealand debut in Auckland later this month.
Titanic: The Human Story opens at the Smith & Caughey’s Building on August 28, featuring more than 200 original artefacts, personal belongings and historical objects from the ill-fated liner.
Created by exhibition company Musealia, the exhibition has toured Europe, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom before its first New Zealand season.
Visitors will experience recreated interiors of the ship, from first-class accommodation to steerage, alongside an audio guide and personal accounts that explore the lives of passengers and crew.
Musealia chief executive Luis Ferreiro Aguirre says the exhibition aims to focus on the people behind the tragedy.
“Every city brings its own perspective to Titanic: The Human Story, and we’re delighted to share this exhibition with audiences in Tāmaki Makaurau.
“We hope New Zealanders will see beyond the legend of Titanic and connect with the real people whose stories continue to resonate more than a century later.”
Tickets are now on sale ahead of the exhibition’s opening.
