Great Journeys New Zealand’s Coastal Pacific has returned from today (September 1), marking the start of the train’s spring, summer and autumn operating season and reconnecting Christchurch / Ōtautahi, Kaikōura, Blenheim and Picton / Waitohi.
The return of the Coastal Pacific reinstates one of New Zealand’s signature visitor experiences and reconnects travellers with the South Island’s east coast, travelling through the Canterbury Plains, alongside the Pacific Ocean and into Marlborough wine country.
Beyond the rail journey itself, the Coastal Pacific also forms an important part of Great Journeys New Zealand’s wider tourism offering, with a range of guided rail tours and short breaks now available for the season ahead. Combining rail travel with accommodation, regional experiences and Interislander connections, the itineraries provide visitors with opportunities to explore more of New Zealand by rail.
For families travelling during the school holidays, Great Journeys New Zealand’s Kids25 offer is also available on the Coastal Pacific and other scenic rail journeys for travel between September 26 and October 11.
