Construction has begun on a new 158-room Rydges hotel in central Tauranga, with the property expected to open in late 2028.
Located at 62 Willow Street, 50 metres from Tauranga’s waterfront promenade, Rydges Tauranga will cater to both leisure and business travellers and include significant conference and event facilities.
EVT Hotels & Resorts will operate the new-build property under its Rydges brand following a competitive operator appointment process.
EVT Hotels & Resorts director of development Peter Hill says moving into construction marks an important milestone for the project.
“The commencement of construction is an exciting step forward for this project and for Tauranga. We’re looking forward to bringing the Rydges brand to the city and creating a hotel that delivers strong commercial outcomes while reflecting the character, energy and spirit of the local community.
“Tauranga is one of New Zealand’s most dynamic growth markets and we’re pleased to be partnering on a development that will help meet increasing demand for quality accommodation, conferencing and hospitality experiences.”
The hotel will feature 158 rooms with harbour and city views, a signature restaurant and bar, onsite basement parking and flexible conferencing and exhibition facilities across four rooms.
Its main conference and events space will accommodate up to 322 people theatre-style.
Rydges Tauranga will become the brand’s eighth New Zealand property when it opens and join a portfolio of 38 Rydges hotels and resorts across Australia and New Zealand.
