Visa Wellington On a Plate gets under way on Saturday, with almost 100 events across the Wellington region set to showcase local food, hospitality and community throughout August.
Running until August 31, this year’s festival is themed Word of Mouth and includes events from Kāpiti Coast and Porirua to the Hutt Valley, Wairarapa and central Wellington. More than 240 Burger Wellington creations will also feature alongside chef collaborations, workshops and community events.
Festival director Beth Brash says the event continues to encourage visitors to explore the region while supporting hospitality businesses during winter.
“Visa Wellington On a Plate has always been about encouraging people to discover somewhere new and support the incredible hospitality businesses that make our region so special. The festival began as a way to encourage people to get out and dine during what was the city’s quietest month; now August is Wellington’s second busiest month after Christmas.”
Highlights include the return of Burger Wellington from August 3–23, free and low-cost community events, and a visit from American burger expert George Motz, who will judge this year’s Burger Wellington competition and host a masterclass during the festival.
