Air New Zealand will become the first international airline to serve the new Western Sydney International Airport when it launches services from Auckland on October 26.
The airline will operate three return flights a week to the airport, providing travellers with a second Sydney gateway alongside its existing services to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.
General manager Australia Kath O’Brien says the new route strengthens links between New Zealand and one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.
“More than 2.5 million people live in Western Sydney, including a large community of New Zealanders. Flying directly into the region gives our customers another way to travel across the Tasman, while also strengthening business and tourism connections between New Zealand and Australia.”
The service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays using Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.
Western Sydney International Airport chief executive Simon Hickey says the route will provide greater choice for leisure, visiting friends and relatives, and business travellers.
“It’s a great time to be strengthening the trans-Tasman connectivity, given both Australia and New Zealand represent each other’s largest inbound market.”
The new route marks the first international service for Western Sydney International Airport ahead of its opening later this year.
