Tourism Industry Aotearoa has welcomed the release of New Zealand’s first National Tourism Policy Statement, describing it as a major step forward for the sector and a sign of progress on the industry’s long-term strategy.
TIA chief executive Rebecca Ingram says the statement closely reflects the priorities the industry has been advocating for and aligns strongly with Tourism 2050, the sector blueprint released in 2023.
“The establishment of a National Tourism Policy Statement was Action One in Tourism 2050, published in 2023, so this release represents real progress,” Rebecca says.
She says the document provides a clearer framework for how tourism should be supported and managed over the long term, with defined roles and responsibilities for Government and industry.
Rebecca says cross-party support will be important if the statement is to provide enduring direction for the sector, particularly with an election year approaching.
TIA says it is also refreshing Tourism 2050 – A Blueprint for Impact to reflect changes in the tourism landscape since it was first published, with an updated version expected in the coming months following member feedback.
