Auckland Museum will host the latest Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition from June 28 to August 23, 2026, bringing 100 award-winning nature images from around the world to Tāmaki Makaurau.
On loan from the Natural History Museum in London, the exhibition opens to the public on Sunday, June 28, with a members’ preview the day before.
Now in its 61st year, Wildlife Photographer of the Year is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious nature photography competitions, showcasing images that capture wildlife behaviour, rare species and the diversity of the natural world.
Auckland Museum director of audience engagement Victoria Travers says the exhibition offers visitors a chance to engage more deeply with both the beauty of the natural world and the pressures it faces.
“It’s a privilege to bring Wildlife Photographer of the Year back to Auckland and share some of the most compelling photos taken of our natural world today,” Victoria says.
The exhibition will also be supported by a programme of family and visitor engagement activity, including a student photography competition, Nature Next Door, and a school holiday activation in the museum’s natural science galleries.
Visitors will also be able to enter a draw to win an eight-day Alaska expedition cruise for two, offered in partnership with Lindblad Expeditions.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year is included with museum admission and is free for Aucklanders.
