Hawke’s Bay Tourism has appointed Tania Burt as its new general manager ahead of the rollout of the region’s refreshed visitor strategy.
Tania brings more than 20 years of tourism industry experience to the role and will begin on July 1.
Hawke’s Bay Tourism board chairman Dave Simmons says the appointment comes at an important time for the region’s visitor economy as work continues on a new 10-year tourism strategy being developed alongside industry stakeholders, councils and mana whenua.
“Delivering on our new strategy requires a leader who can work in partnership with a range of stakeholders including councils, mana whenua, operators, and communities, to deliver a shared ambition for the region,” Dave says.
“Tania has demonstrated in one of New Zealand’s most challenging regional tourism environments that she can do exactly that, so we are excited to welcome her to the organisation.”
Northland tourism experience
Tania joins Hawke’s Bay Tourism from Northland Inc, where she most recently served as general manager destination and communications.
During her time there, she led development of the Taitokerau Northland Destination Management Plan, which Hawke’s Bay Tourism says became recognised nationally as a best-practice example of bicultural partnership in destination management.
Tania has also represented regional tourism interests nationally through the Regional Tourism New Zealand Board of Trustees.
“Hawke’s Bay is an iconic tourism destination with wonderful people, extraordinary assets and considerable potential,” Tania says.
“I believe that if you want to go far you must go together, and when you build strong partnerships you can achieve things no single organisation can do alone.”
Industry background
Tania previously held senior tourism roles with Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Explore Group.
She is also a member of the Institute of Directors.
