Black Cat Group has appointed Andrew Cleverley as chief executive officer, with the tourism and hospitality leader set to take up the role in June.
Andrew brings more than 20 years’ experience across New Zealand and Australia, including senior operational roles in tourism, accommodation and large-scale venue management.
Industry experience across tourism and hospitality
Most recently, Andrew served as general manager – food and beverage at Venues Ōtautahi, overseeing hospitality delivery across Christchurch’s major venues and managing a workforce of more than 500 staff.
His previous roles include leadership positions with The Hermitage at Aoraki/Mt Cook, Thredbo Ski Resort, Tourism Holdings and Rydges Hotels.
Leadership during growth phase
Black Cat Group director Paul Bingham says the appointment comes at a key point for the business.
“Andrew is a proven leader with extensive industry experience and a strong people-first approach. His focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences aligns perfectly with our values,” Paul says.
The marine tourism operator, which has been in operation for more than 40 years, recently expanded through the acquisition of Encounter Kaikōura, strengthening its presence in the sector.
Focus on visitor experience and sustainability
Paul says Andrew’s leadership will support the company’s next phase of development.
“Andrew’s leadership will support the continued evolution of the business, while staying true to our commitment to conservation, community and world-class experiences.”
Andrew says he is looking forward to joining the organisation.
“The business has a proud history, a strong reputation in marine tourism and a clear vision for the future,” he says.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team to build on this momentum… and support the next phase of sustainable growth.”
The appointment comes as marine tourism operators continue to position for growth, with demand for nature-based and wildlife experiences remaining a key driver of visitor activity.
