Ruapehu District Council is urging local hospitality operators to take part in the Ministry for Regulation’s review of the legislation that governs the sector.
The Hospitality Review is seeking feedback from across the industry — from hotels, restaurants, cafés and catering businesses to market food stalls — to better understand the regulatory challenges affecting hospitality operations.
Ruapehu District Council executive manager regulatory and customer services Sharon Robinson says it is important that local businesses contribute their perspectives.
“The review wants to hear from people involved at all levels of hospitality — business owners, workers and representative groups — about the regulatory pain points and problems that affect their operations or the wider sector,” Sharon says.
“This first stage of engagement will help the Government confirm its understanding of the challenges faced by the sector, so it’s important that Ruapehu hospitality providers have their say.”
Council is encouraging participation from all operators, whether they run a large restaurant, a regular market stall or an occasional fundraising barbecue.
Sharon says having the right regulatory settings is vital for the region’s economy.
“Hospitality is closely linked to tourism, which is Ruapehu’s second-largest area of economic activity. Ensuring practical and supportive regulation will help drive business sustainability, innovation and growth,” she says.
“All views and experiences are valuable — every voice can help shape a more effective regulatory environment.”
More information about the review, including how to provide feedback, is available on the Ministry for Regulation website.
