Condé Nast Traveler has announced the results of its annual US Readers’ Choice Awards, with Great Journeys New Zealand’s TranzAlpine recognised as number 20 in the Trains category.
The magazine received more than 757,000 survey responses from readers across the United States rating their travel experiences around the world. The Readers’ Choice Awards, among the travel industry’s longest-running and most prestigious accolades, remain a benchmark of excellence for destinations, hotels, transport and travel experiences.
The recognition represents a major milestone for the Great Journeys New Zealand brand, reinforcing its reputation as one of the country’s most unique and memorable travel experiences. Operated by KiwiRail, the TranzAlpine connects Christchurch and Greymouth, taking guests on a journey across the Southern Alps, through the patchwork paddocks of the Canterbury Plains, alongside the Waimakariri River, and into the heart of the West Coast.
KiwiRail executive general manager passenger Tracey Goodall says the award marks an important milestone for Great Journeys New Zealand.
“Great Journeys New Zealand plays a vital role in connecting visitors, both internationally and domestically, with our landscapes, our people and our culture,” says Tracey.
“This award is a true testament to the world-class experience our crew delivers every day, set against the breathtaking landscapes of New Zealand’s South Island. We’re honoured to see the TranzAlpine recognised on the global stage alongside the world’s most unforgettable train journeys.”
The TranzAlpine journey travels between Christchurch and the South Island’s West Coast. The experience features panoramic carriages, an open-air viewing coach and a choice of travelling Scenic or Scenic Plus. The Scenic Plus fully hosted premium service includes at-seat dining with a paddock-to-plate inspired menu and wine pairings.
