The Hawke’s Bay recently released their Tourism Annual Report for FY24 that highlights what a transformative year it has been for the region, marked by recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle and steady growth in tourism.

Visitor Spending
Domestic tourism spending reached $384 million, while international visitors contributed $69 million. In particular, Australia and the United States were major contributors to international tourism revenue.
Accommodation and Cruise Tourism
A total of 973,000 nights were spent in commercial accommodations. The Napier Port welcomed 89 cruise ship visits, boosting the local economy.
Sustainability Milestones
Over 50 tourism members joined the “Tourism Sustainability Commitment,” promoting green practices and low-impact transportation such as regional cycling trails.
Promotional Success
A “Tastes Like Summer” campaign reached over 15 million impressions across digital platforms, showing off Hawke’s Bay as a destination for culinary and cultural experiences. Innovative marketing efforts, including weather-dynamic billboards, significantly increased engagement.
Future Outlook
With sustained industry engagement, cultural elements such as the Te Matau-a-Māui initiative, and enhanced business events, Hawke’s Bay Tourism is set for further growth. A strong Destination Management Plan will guide these efforts, aligning local and regional initiatives.
