Calling all fearless, imaginative, and innovative teams across New Zealand! This is your chance to design, build, and race your dream trolley in front of thousands of spectators. The Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix is a free public event where 40 teams will compete, propelling their carts to the finish line using only gravity and momentum. Participants will be judged on speed, creativity, and showmanship.
Mark your calendars February 15, 2025, as the legendary Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix returns to Aotearoa after a 10-year break.
This world famous event will take place in Auckland showing the best of Kiwi creativity and ingenuity.
Teams of five from around the country are invited to create the most inventive and outrageous non-motorised trolley carts. These unique vehicles will navigate a challenging, obstacle-filled course, all while impressing the crowd and judges with their creativity and performance.
Known globally as the Red Bull Soapbox Race, this iconic event has been held in over 90 cities since 2000, featuring countless imaginative designs, from Harry Potter’s Knight Bus to Mario Kart themes and even Taylor Swift tributes. Kiwis are known for innovation and ingenuity, so this is set to make a significant impact.
In 2015, Rotorua’s Red Stag Hunters won the title with their expertly crafted trolley, bringing a giant red stag to life, complemented by the team’s matching hunting outfits. Team member Paul Laing says “We were thrilled to hear that the Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix is back! It was an epic experience with fierce competition. We’re ready to apply and aim for the title once again!”
Applications open August 8, 2024, and close September 27, 2024. Teams need to showcase their most extraordinary and creative designs. Those selected will embark on a four-month journey to bring their concepts to life before hitting the track.
In addition to the coveted Grand Prix title, the top three teams will win exclusive Red Bull experience prizes.
The sixth edition of the Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix promises to be bigger and better than ever. The event will be free for the public, offering entertainment and activities for all ages.
