The Tourism Data Leadership Group is delighted by confirmation of the Minister for Tourism
and Hospitality’s support for its Strategic Business Plan.
“On behalf of the wider tourism sector, we appreciate Minister Doocey’s support for the vision, future work plan and investment recommendations the TDLG was responsible for developing” says TDLG chair Steve Armitage.
“Everyone within the sector knows that New Zealand’s current tourism data system only partially meets the needs of its diverse users. The Strategic Business Plan aims to address this by focusing on providing solid foundations of core data. This essential data will enable the tourism sector to be more effective and efficient through better decision-making and aid in the continued resurgence of the sector.”
The Strategic Business Plan also emphasises the importance of collaborative efforts.
“While small in nature and somewhat of a pilot project, we’re particularly excited that the
Partnership Fund, which the Group conceptualised, is one of the first cabs off the rank,” says Steve.
In addition to more than $4 million being directly invested into data and its accessibility, the TDLG also identified system-level challenges, such as governance and funding, which need to be addressed collectively by the sector.
“Sector feedback on the draft Strategic Business Plan has helped ensure we’ve got the balance right.”
The TDLG is optimistic about the potential outcomes that could be achieved but remains fully aware of the lingering instability and uncertainty.
“There is still much to navigate and negotiate but we look forward to seeing the Ministry of
Business, Innovation and Employment implement the plan over the course of the next two
years.
“The TDLG is pleased to have reached this critical stage and I want to recognise and acknowledge the contributions of all past and present members of the Group for the important role they each played in developing the Strategic Business Plan,” says Steve.
