In a skyrocketing surge of wanderlust, Kiwis are gearing up for an adventurous Easter Weekend for 2024, marking a significant 48 per cent increase in travel bookings compared to the same period in 2023,according to the latest data from Webjet.
This spike in travel enthusiasm highlights a strong recovery in the tourism sector and highlights the evolving preferences of Kiwi travellers.
Despite London being the most searched destination in the lead-up to Easter, it’s the Australian cities that have won the hearts of Kiwi travellers, with Brisbane emerging as the top international destination, securing 17 per cent of all bookings. This preference shift is interesting, especially considering London’s high search volume but its absence from the top 10 booked destinations.
Here’s a glance at the top 10 international destinations that Kiwis are flocking to for Easter 2024:
Brisbane (17%)
Melbourne (14.6%)
Sydney (14.4%)
Gold Coast (8%)
Perth (4.9%)
Fiji (3.7%)
Samoa (3.3%)
Rarotonga (2.7%)
Bangkok (2.6%)
Manila (2%)
The data also reveals a keen interest in domestic travel, with Auckland leading the pack at 33.5%, followed by Christchurch and Wellington. This domestic travel trend highlights Kiwis ongoing love for exploring the beauty of their own backyard.
The period between January 1 and February 29, 2024, was a busy one for travellers planning their Easter getaways, with the top searched destinations offering a mix of international allure and domestic charm. While cities like Perth, Bali, and Fiji made the international search list, Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington topped the domestic search charts.
This surge in travel bookings not only reflects the Kiwi spirit of adventure but also signals a positive outlook for the travel industry, which has seen a remarkable rebound. It’s clear that New Zealanders are eager to explore the world once more.
