Virgin Voyages, Sir Richard Branson’s cruise line, threw an epic ‘Scarlet Night’ party to celebrate Resilient Lady’s arrival to Melbourne on the eve of her much-anticipated Australian MerMaiden voyage.
Scarlet Night is the famous event at sea, synonymous with all Virgin Voyages sailings.
On Sunday, Melbourne’s hottest celebrities showed out in full force to celebrate the ship’s arrival, which will call Melbourne home for the summer.
Docked at Station Pier in Port Melbourne, the ship opened up to celebs, media, travel agents, brand partners, avid cruisers and cruise newbies for an exclusive first look at Virgin Voyages’ newest ship.
Without ever leaving the dock, attendees were treated to impeccable food ranging from Korean BBQ to authentic and elevated Mexican, along with a chance to see the first Australian performances of Persephone. The night concluded with an all-out Scarlet Night spectacular, a celebration that tells the tale of the fabled octopus goddess and the Sailor who won her heart. Awash with red, guests danced the night away at the poolside party on the ship’s upper decks.
“We wanted to make an epic splash in Melbourne – one that would match the excitement we have about our summer season here – and we certainly accomplished that,” says Virgin Voyages’ chief executive officer Nirmal Saverimuttu.
“Not only did we raise funds for ocean conservation, a noble cause that’s deeply ingrained in our brand ethos, but we gave Melbourne a small taste of what they can expect all summer long. We hope that with the incredible value we offer our Sailors, local residents will give us a chance and experience what it means to set sail the Virgin way.”
Following an unforgettable launch event in Melbourne, Sir Richard Branson will meet Resilient Lady to say farewell before she departs on her inaugural voyage.. The five-night sailing around Tasmania calls on both Burnie and Hobart.
