Cook Islands Tourism Leadership Programme: A game-changer for young Cook Islanders

Recently, Air New Zealand, Cook Islands Tourism, and Pacific Resort Hotel Group have come together to launch the Cook Islands Tourism Leadership Programme, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering the youth of the Cook Islands. The programme is inspired by Pacific Resort Hotel Group’s dedication to nurturing young talent within the community, offering them a pathway to excel in the tourism industry.

This programme is specifically designed to cultivate leadership and professional skills among young, enthusiastic Cook Islanders. It offers a scholarship worth $50,000 NZD, and is a 17-week Leadership and Performance course at Queenstown Resort College Tai Tokerau campus. The package also includes return airfares and 6-month work placement at Pacific Resort Hotel Group. This is not just an educational opportunity; it’s a transformative journey for aspiring tourism professionals.

The Cook Islands Tourism Leadership Programme is a commitment to the future. Marcus Niszow, ceo of Pacific Resort Hotel Group says “We recognise and believe in the potential of our local youth and the immense value they bring to the tourism industry,” said Marcus Niszow, CEO of Pacific Resort Hotel Group. “Through the Cook Islands Tourism Leadership Programme, we are committed to providing them with the necessary tools and experiences to succeed, and pave a significant career trajectory in Cook Island Tourism.”

The initiative doesn’t end with education though. After completing the course, participants will return to the Cook Islands for a hands-on experience, starting internships with Cook Islands Tourism and a leading tourism provider. Brent Roxburgh, Air New Zealand general manager Pacific Islands says  “This is important to us as the Cook Islands are home to the biggest cohort of Air New Zealanders outside of New Zealand – and we want to ensure that we are fostering a strong pipeline of talent for the roles we have in this area. We are committed to strengthening our partnership with the Cook Islands to foster tourism growth and support the local community.
