Rydges Formosa Golf Resort appoints new general manager

Building a ‘community hub’ for locals and offering a world-class experience to all who visit the sprawling 170-hectare Rydges Formosa Golf Resort is a top priority for award-winning hotelier Clive Wardle in his new role as general manager.

Bringing 15 years of hotel experience, Clive has climbed the hotel career ladder starting in a concierge position to now managing hotels in New Zealand and Australia.

Clive – who has won industry awards including for monthly hotel growth and hotel of the year – now brings his expertise and passion to Auckland’s picturesque Pohutukawa Coast.

“The stars have aligned, and I am thrilled to join the Rydges Formosa Golf Resort team,” Clive says.

“Every day I take a minute to marvel at the expansive panoramic views Rydges Formosa has across the Hauraki Gulf to Waiheke Island, Rangitoto Island and Coromandel Peninsula. But it’s my team that is the heart and soul helping locals and visitors melt their worries away and relax in this picturesque setting.”

Committed to continuing to strengthen strong ties within the community, Clive believes ongoing collaboration and support of local businesses and organisations is important.

“Our priority is to create a genuine community hub,” Clive says.

“We are fortunate to have this magnificent golf course, hotel, restaurant, and bar on our doorstep and want to encourage locals to make the most of all that is on offer. We also look forward to welcoming guests from afar to experience our unique accommodation options and the beauty of the Pohutukawa Coast.”

Nestled just 40 minutes southeast of Auckland, Rydges Formosa Golf Resort has 50 villas surrounded by a world-class international 18-hole championship golf course designed by 1963 Open Championship winner Sir Bob Charles. The golf course was featured in The Finest Golf Clubs in the World.

The hotel and grounds are also home to the Pro Shop, and an NZPGA golf coach, Nineteen Restaurant and Nineteen Bar.

“Be sure to take a minute to enjoy the views from the 11th, 12th and the 13th hole,” Clive says.

“And chat to our seasoned pros because our service that goes beyond bookings and check outs at the onsite Pro Golf Shop.”

“There was never any doubt that Clive is the right person for this job,” says New Zealand EVT Hotels & Resorts operations general manager, Simon White.

“He brings years of experience, passion for people and a strong commitment to the local community.”
