Local owner and developer Precinct Properties is breathing new life into Wellington’s hospitality scene with the opening of Willis Lane.
The new premium dining and entertainment precinct is set to become the underground heart of Wellington’s golden mile, a hub of activity for families, thrill seekers, corporate events and late-night revellers alike.
The venue, situated in the basement of the iconic AON Tower, 1 Willis Street, boasts fourteen food, drink and entertainment options, including Duck Island, Behemoth Brewing Company, lunchtime favourites Nam Nam and Foo Du Dumplings, and dining maestro David Lee’s latest project, ‘Crack Chicken’, as well as two new-to-market entertainment concepts.
“This new destination is an opportunity to showcase a range of local vendors and new-to-market concepts, get Wellingtonians excited about dining out, and, most importantly, inject Wellington’s hospitality scene with new life,” says Precinct Properties chief executive Scott Pritchard.
“Wellington has always been known for its vibrant hospitality industry, and we want to play a part in rejuvenating it after such a challenging few years.”
Formerly the ‘Taste on Willis’ food court that closed in 2020, the 4000sqm space has been completely transformed with the help of award-winning NZ interior designer Paul Izzard.
Taking inspiration from the railway stations and repurposed industrial buildings of New York, the space is a series of weaving tunnels and vaulted brick archways, creating a space that is worn in, tactile and human – simultaneously hidden and enticing, while retaining an outdoor market quality.
“We are thrilled to have worked with Paul Izzard on the design of Willis Lane,” says Scott. “He has created an incredibly exciting space that blends our learnings from Commercial Bay with the best of Wellington’s iconic contemporary style.”
Set to open in late July 2023.
