Top-performing Napier hotel closed due to flood damage

Following the recent historic flood event in Napier and the surrounding Hawkes Bay region, Scenic Hotel Group reluctantly advises the need to temporarily shut down its top-performing Scenic Te Pania Hotel to enable flood restoration work to take place.

Scenic Hotel Group managing director Brendan Taylor says the situation is “seriously dissappointing and comes on top of an already challenging year, but will once again demonstrate the resilience of our people and industry to pick themselves back up again and get on with business".

Brendan points to the waterfront Napier Hotel as being one of the top post-COVID performers in the Group with exceptional forward bookings over the summer months.

"Napier and the Hawkes Bay region are top-rated destinations for Kiwis, and with the curtailment of international travel this year, the region was proving even more popular."

Scenic Te Pania Hotel has had to defer or cancel all bookings over the immediate period.

Current estimations to re-open are pitched at mid-January however Brendan tempers this with the ability to engage with trade contractors over a traditional holiday period and that the impact of flood damage extends across the region.

"We will be pulling out all of the stops to enable contractors to work on the property as well as looking at all options to accommodate our guests just as soon as we can."

Guests with existing bookings are being contacted directly, with further status notifications posted on the Group's website.
