A Trans-Tasman travel bubble is looking likely to go ahead after Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he spoke to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Friday.
However, not all is as it seems.
Australian Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack says the first stage of a travel zone with New Zealand could look like quarantine-free travel from New Zealand to New South Wales and the Northern Territory.
These changes, however, will be one-way only and will only allow New Zealanders to travel to Australia and not the other way around.
The borders are set to reopen on Friday, October 16.
Ardern said on Friday afternoon that allowing Australians into New Zealand is still too risky.
She urged Kiwis to keep their dollar in-house and spend their tourism dollars domestically before skipping across the ditch for their holidays.
