Rotorua comes out on top for occupancy over Queens Birthday Weekend

Accommodation booking data produced for RotoruaNZ shows Rotorua had the highest occupancy rates in the country this long weekend ahead of Hurunui in second, Mackenzie in third and Taupo in fourth.

“This is great news for our local business economy who often rely on long weekends during the colder months to see an increase in business activity,” says Rotorua Economic Development chief executive Andrew Wilson.

“This data also tells us that Rotorua remains a favourite holiday destination for many New Zealanders looking for a winter wonderland getaway.”

The data also highlights a positive trend for Matariki weekend later this month with accommodation bookings currently sitting at around 80 per cent capacity.

“Over the past week we can see there has been a significant bump in bookings which tells us we are on track for another full weekend during our first Matariki holiday weekend.

“Rotorua is currently a hive of activity as our community prepares the largest number of events in Aotearoa to celebrate this special time and we look forward to welcoming manuhiri to join in the celebrations with us.”
