Auckland’s vaccination campaign will roll out into the streets with support from Auckland Airport’s bus services.
The airport’s fleet of six Park & Ride buses run by its contractor Bus Travel have been made available to the DHBs for its door-to-door vaccination campaign.
Since August 22, Auckland Airport has provided its 40,000m2 Park & Ride facility – now dubbed the ‘Park & Vax’ – as a drive through vaccination site.
Managed by the Northern Region Health Coordination Centre with the support of Auckland Airport transport experts and staff volunteers, the site has been administering an average of 3100 vaccines a day.
“We’ve supported the campaign to vaccinate New Zealanders right from the outset. Vaccination is one of the best tools we currently have for managing the impact of pandemic," says Auckland Airport chief executive Adrian Littlewood.
“The drive through option at our Park & Ride has worked really well since it opened more than three weeks ago, but we recognise that there are people in our South Auckland community that for whatever reason it isn’t an option for them. It’s great to be able to redeploy our buses and support the vaccination teams in any way we can to make this successful."
