Kiwi-owned GO Rentals will open its tenth New Zealand branch in Greymouth October 1 2026, giving domestic and international visitors more choice and greater flexibility when exploring the West Coast and wider South Island.
The new branch will operate from the Greymouth i-SITE Visitor Information Centre at the town’s railway station, creating a convenient connection for visitors arriving on the TranzAlpine and those travelling through the region.
The Greymouth location strengthens GO Rentals’ South Island network, which already includes Nelson, Christchurch, Queenstown, Dunedin and Invercargill. It will also support greater connectivity between the West Coast and other key visitor destinations across the island.
GO Rentals chief executive John Osborne says the new branch reflected the company’s confidence in the West Coast and the continued growth of regional tourism.
“Greymouth is an important gateway to one of New Zealand’s most distinctive regions. Opening here gives our customers another way to build the West Coast into their journey and makes it easier to connect with the rest of our South Island network.
“As a New Zealand-owned business, we’re proud to invest in the regions our customers want to explore. The West Coast has enormous appeal for both international visitors and New Zealanders, and we see a strong opportunity to support the region’s tourism industry over the long term.”
Customers will have access to a modern, fuel-efficient fleet, with one-way rentals available between Greymouth and participating GO Rentals branches across the South Island. The branch will combine local service with GO Rentals’ digital booking and check-in experience, designed to make collecting a rental vehicle faster and easier.
GO Rentals has built a reputation as one of New Zealand’s most innovative rental car operators. Its focus includes making the rental journey simpler through digital technology, growing its range of electric and hybrid vehicles, and helping travellers reduce the environmental impact of exploring New Zealand.
Andrew Aitken, Destination and Tourism manager at Development West Coast, says the opening was a welcome investment in the region.
“We’re delighted to welcome GO Rentals to Greymouth and their presence here demonstrates real confidence in the West Coast and the future of our visitor economy.
“Transport connections play an important role in making the Coast accessible. This new branch will give domestic and international visitors more choice and greater flexibility to explore our communities, landscapes and visitor experiences, while improving connections between the West Coast and the wider South Island.”
