A refurbished lodge at Whakapapa Holiday Park is offering a warmer and more comfortable stay for visitors following a major upgrade by the Department of Conservation.
The 32-bed lodge has been fitted with insulation, improved heating, new paint and refreshed interiors as part of ongoing investment in visitor facilities at Whakapapa Village.
DOC project manager Jeremy Gadd says the improvements will enhance the visitor experience.
“It’s a far more welcoming and comfortable place for visitors, somewhere you’d want to return to at the end of the day after exploring the park.”
The holiday park is owned by DOC and operated by Te Hokinga Limited under a management agreement.
Director Te Ngaehe Wanikau says the refurbishment reflects a shared commitment to caring for Tongariro National Park while providing visitors with an experience that reflects the significance of the landscape.
Tongariro operations manager Libby O’Brien says the project demonstrates the value of partnerships in enhancing visitor experiences in the dual World Heritage national park.
