Eight Māori-owned businesses and places of cultural significance have been added to Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s Treasures of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland platform, expanding the range of Māori visitor experiences available across the region.
Announced during Matariki celebrations at Te Whatu Stardome, the latest additions include cultural experiences, hospitality, retail, wellness and visitor attractions designed to help travellers engage more deeply with Auckland’s Māori heritage.
New businesses joining the platform are Tūrongo Collective, Fantail & Turtle, Aroha Love, MANAAKI and Konei, while Te Whatu Stardome, Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum and Te Paparahi Toi Māori have been recognised as Places of Cultural Connection.
Tātaki Auckland Unlimited director of Māori outcomes Helen Te Hira says the additions reflect growing confidence within Auckland’s Māori visitor economy.
“Around the world, people are looking for more meaningful connections with the places they visit. Māori tourism adds a rich dimension to Auckland’s visitor experience and helps distinguish Aotearoa New Zealand on the world stage.”
Helen says the platform gives Māori businesses and iwi enterprises the opportunity to share their stories on their own terms, while showcasing experiences across food, retail, wellness, arts, culture and guided tours.
The Treasures of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland platform was launched in 2024 and continues to expand as more Māori-owned visitor businesses and iwi enterprises join the initiative.
