A new tourism signpost on the Whangaparāoa Peninsula is giving visitors a fresh perspective on the region’s location, connecting local landmarks with destinations around the globe.
Installed outside Escapism Escape Rooms in Stanmore Bay, the signpost features directional markers showing the distance to nearby attractions as well as major international cities.
Local meets global
The signpost highlights Whangaparāoa’s position on the world map, with arrows pointing towards destinations including Shakespear Regional Park, Sydney, London and Tokyo.
The installation has been designed to encourage visitors to stop, explore the area and reflect on the peninsula’s connection to both local and international destinations.
Visitor attraction
Located on Karepiro Drive, the signpost is intended to serve as a visitor photo opportunity while celebrating the unique geography of the peninsula.
The landmark offers a visual reminder that while Whangaparāoa sits at the edge of the Hauraki Gulf, it is also connected to cities and communities around the world.
Community pride
The project aims to promote a sense of place and local pride, encouraging residents and visitors alike to appreciate the peninsula’s position within the wider world.
Visitors are invited to stop by the site, take photographs and discover the distances between Whangaparāoa and a range of destinations both near and far.
The signpost is located outside Escapism Escape Rooms and is accessible to the public.
