Bookings for the 2026/27 Routeburn Track Great Walk season have officially opened, with strong demand expected for one of New Zealand’s most popular alpine hiking experiences.
The track is known for its mountain ridgelines, hanging valleys, forest trails, rivers and panoramic alpine scenery, attracting both domestic and international walkers each year.
The Department of Conservation’s virtual queue system has returned for this year’s booking release to help manage expected demand as places become available.
The Routeburn Track remains one of the country’s most sought-after Great Walks, linking Fiordland National Park and Mount Aspiring National Park through a multi-day alpine journey.
