Queenstown Lakes District is positioning itself at the forefront of New Zealand’s travel technology sector, with a major global industry event set to take place in July.
Technology Queenstown will host WiT (Web in Travel) on July 20 and 21 at the Queenstown Memorial Centre, bringing together global travel, tourism and travel tech executives, founders and investors alongside New Zealand industry leaders.
Technology Queenstown chief executive Sarah Russell says the event will explore the key forces shaping the future of the sector.
“We are excited to be releasing the programme for WiT Queenstown today, covering the topics that will shape the future of the travel and tourism sectors,” Sarah says.
The programme will examine artificial intelligence, sustainable tourism technology, the future of online travel agencies, changing distribution models, corporate travel, accommodation technology, payments innovation and the evolving airport experience.
Founder of Technology Queenstown Roger Sharp says the organisation’s long-term goal is to build $1 billion in annual GDP from the technology sector in Queenstown Lakes District over the next 20 years .
“Our mission is anchored in travel and hospitality tech,” Roger says, adding the region has the potential to become a recognised testing ground for travel and hospitality innovation.
WiT founder Yeoh Siew Hoon says the 2026 theme, The Next 20, reflects a focus on the next two decades of innovation in global travel technology, with Queenstown marking a new chapter for the event.
Technology Queenstown was established in 2024 with a mission to grow a $1 billion technology sector in the district over two decades and diversify the regional economy.
