The Government has confirmed a series of long-term tourism concessions across the South Island, providing extended operating certainty for key visitor attractions.
Conservation Minister Tama Potaka announced a 38-year concession for NZSki to continue operating at The Remarkables Ski Area, alongside a 30-year guided walking concession on the Milford Track and a 25-year concession for operations at Te Anau Caves in Fiordland Te Rua o te Moko.
The Milford Track concession has been granted to Tourism Milford Limited, trading as Ultimate Hikes.
Potaka says long-term concessions provide operators with greater certainty to invest, train staff and plan for future demand, while maintaining environmental oversight.
Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston says the decisions offer confidence for tourism businesses and regional economies reliant on visitor activity.
The 38-year concession for NZSki supports employment across the Queenstown Lakes visitor economy, with public access to surrounding conservation land remaining in place.
In Fiordland, the continuation of guided walking operations on the Milford Track supports jobs across transport, accommodation and tourism services linked to the multi-day track.
The Department of Conservation says the concessions include enforceable environmental and safety conditions, with the Crown retaining full regulatory oversight.
