Wellington is set to host a series of major events between June and October 2026, with Government support confirmed under the $70 million Major Events and Tourism Package.
Wellington-based list MP Nicola Willis says the funding will help drive visitor spending and support hospitality and tourism operators in the capital.
Events receiving backing include the World of WearableArt Show, Beervana 2026, and the Lōemis Festival. Funding will also support an international chef collaboration as part of Visa Wellington On a Plate.
Nicola says major events play a significant role in filling accommodation, supporting hospitality businesses and generating employment.
Government figures cited alongside the announcement indicate that for every dollar spent on live performance, approximately $3.20 circulates through the wider economy, with live event activity contributing an estimated 1.4 percent of national GDP.
The Wellington allocation forms part of the broader $70 million package aimed at strengthening off-peak visitation and supporting regional economies.
