Auckland Airport has begun staged construction work to upgrade the duty-free retail area in its international terminal, with travellers set to notice increased activity airside.
The project is expected to be completed in late 2026 and will deliver a modernised duty-free space featuring a broader range of brands and experiences. Changes will be introduced progressively as part of Auckland Airport’s longer-term retail strategy.
Auckland Airport is working closely with its duty-free partner Lagardère to ensure travellers can continue to access the full duty-free offering throughout the refurbishment period.
The year-long programme is being delivered in phases, with retail stores continuing to trade and wide walkways maintained to support passenger flow and safety.
Temporary hoardings and ceilings are being installed beyond security in the international departures area, with staged works in the arrivals duty-free space to follow in the coming months. During construction, some stores will be relocated into temporary shopping bays.
Auckland Airport says it is focused on minimising disruption and keeping travellers moving smoothly through the terminal during the works.
Further details on the duty-free upgrade, along with additional changes planned for retail and food and beverage offerings across the terminal, will be shared as the project progresses.
