Business Events Industry Aotearoa’s 2025 conference has wrapped up in Auckland yesterday, with more than 220 delegates coming together to discuss the future of business events and celebrate sector achievements.
The two-day programme, held alongside the inaugural Bizzies Awards, brought together leading organisations across conferences, incentives and business events for knowledge sharing and networking in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
BEIA’s Outstanding Contributor Award for 2025 was presented to Janet Matheson, who founded Conferences and Events (C&E) 35 years ago. The business is now led by her son, Drew Matheson.
Presenting the award, BEIA chief executive Lisa Hopkins and board chair Martin Snedden acknowledged Janet’s long-standing contribution to the industry.
“Her story as a professional conference organiser is one of legacy, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of excellence,” Lisa says.
“The most extraordinary chapter is still being written. As this industry leader steps back from the spotlight, her legacy is far from over. The business she built remains at the heart of the sector, now led by the next generation, ensuring that the values, vision, and adventurous spirit that defined her career will continue to play an important role in our industry for years to come.”
BEIA has also confirmed that its 2026 conference will be held in Ōtautahi Christchurch next October, with The Bizzies Awards returning as part of the combined programme.
The conference will open on Tuesday, October 27 with a welcome at One New Zealand Stadium, followed by two days at Christchurch Town Hall.
ChristchurchNZ head of destination Kath Low says the city is pleased to host the event.
“Business events are incredibly important to our city and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to experience our world-class venues, breathtaking landscapes and seamless connectivity,” she says.
